I find the existence of instincts to be quite an accepted and unquestioned thing and I've never been able to figure out why. Its not like anyone bothered to try to prove them, their merely blanket statements that are jus accepted as truth and after puttin some thought into em I've realized that I don't believe we humans still have them.
In university I took a class on human behaviours and the professor was the one who originally presented this idea to me (I'd shout him out but I don't remember his name or funny enough the name of the class, I jus kno I got an 80-somethin in it #powpow) He said in the animal kingdom instincts exist because animals have a need to carry out activities inherently with no real reason present and they do them skillfully despite never having any experience on them, like birds flying south or baby turtles knowing to go into the water once they've hatched.

Animals also exhibit self preservation. No animal would intentionally commit suicide. They'll do some incredibly stupid shit that will lead to their own demise but to actually end their own lives? Not gonna happen. We humans though? Our suicide rate is disturbingly high (and to me any number would be disturbing) instinctfully that shud go against every muscle, urge, feeling, in our bodies.
This begs the question "2 Easy? If we don't have instincts then what do we have?" I'm glad I asked, very good question by the way. Intuition is humankinds way of evolving past the constraints of instincts. Instincts are inherent commands that animals cannot disobey that is jus bred into their genetic makeup so they kno what their supposed to do, for us our intuition is merely jus that aspect but in more of a suggestive way aka our conscience. That little voice that tells us we shouldn't is really what seperates us from the animals. Sadly many times people confuse that voice for instinct but hopefully this post will help to un-blur them lines.
Its a shame Doug didn't jus do what ur supposed to do and curl up into the fetal position listen to your conscience...
